Mongolia 1996
Mongolia was the first radio station I dealt with that had email! DHL paid 25 pounds per week to sponsor a one hour programme each week on Blue Sky Radio in Ulaanbaataar called DHL INTERNATIONAL MUSIC EXPRESS. The Script was emailed to Mongolia where they recorded their words on to tape. DHL then delivered the tape to Scotland where the English words, music and commercials were added and the programme printed on CD for DHL to deliver back to Ulaanbaatar. Each programme also contained two Nescafe commercials paid for by Nescafe plus a Northwest Airlines commercial for which we received one return ticked China to London each year for me and one for the Radio Station from Beijing to the states. Each programme also contained one commercial for the Gloria Plaza Hotel in Beijing for which me and the radio station were paid in room nights. The programme ran for two years.
It is a regret that I never got to spend more time working with the people at Radio TV Mongolia..... I was simply too busy in China. Sadly I was not particularly into Photography or video in those days either and took few photographs and just a few minutes of video with a camera that was faulty.
Nevertheless I got to do something that few others ever had.... or will.... and the people at the radio station were lovely to work with
